Anti-scratch waxes for glazes

Anti-scratch waxes form a protective film on the glazed surface and reduce scratches during the handling, packing and storage of floor and wall tiles.

Why tiles get scratched

Scratches usually appear when tiles slide over one another at the kiln exit, during sorting, stacking and transport. Polished, glossy and dark-colored surfaces are the most sensitive, because any mark is easy to see. Applied right after firing, the wax reduces friction between tiles precisely at these stages.

Where anti-scratch waxes are used

  • Polished and glazed porcelain tiles
  • Floor and wall tiles with a glossy finish
  • Dark-colored tiles
  • Sorting, packing and palletizing lines

How to choose the wax

The right wax depends on the finish, the application method on the line and how long the tile stays in storage. Polished and dark tiles usually need more protection. The film has to be thin enough not to make the surface slippery or get in the way of cleaning after installation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the anti-scratch wax change how the tile looks?

No. The film is thin and transparent and does not change the color or the gloss of the finish.

When is the wax applied?

Usually right after firing or polishing, before sorting and packing, so the tile is protected in every step that follows.
