Glazes and additives for third firing

A line of glazes and additives for third firing, the decoration applied to floor and wall tiles that have already been through the kiln.

How third firing works

After the main firing, the tile receives the new application and goes back into the kiln at a lower temperature.

This process allows effects that would not survive the temperature of the main firing, such as intense gloss, bright colors and finishing details on special pieces.

Where it is used

  • Listellos, borders and decorative pieces
  • Wall tiles with gloss and relief details
  • Special pieces and short production runs

Glazes and additives for third firing

Third-firing glazes are formulated to melt at low temperature and bond well to a surface that is already glazed. The additives adjust application, fixing and how the layer behaves in the kiln.

The formulation is adjusted to the desired effect and to each customer’s kiln temperature.

Frequently asked questions

Why use a third firing?

To achieve effects that need a lower temperature than the main firing, or to decorate a finished tile without repeating the whole process.

Can third-firing glazes be used on floor tiles?

It depends on the effect and the use. In high-traffic areas, wear resistance has to be assessed case by case.
